The scenography is inspired by the typology of the tent, the marquee, in the evocation of the architecture of the show: the tarpaulin, the rope and the metal structure. The workshop creates a total installation from a one-meter-wide tarpaulin strip module declined and repeated. This idea is part of an approach of flexibility and modularity in opposition to the constructions of standardized and rigid picture rails. These tarpaulins are printed, with variations of patterns generated by artificial intelligence with the AI software tool. The created universe oscillates between surrealism and dreamlike interpretation of the codes fashion accessory. The studio has chosen to create a spine with a luminous system composed of oriented and fixed neon lights.

Fashion show LGN + JOEONE
Production with La Mode en Images (2021)

In May 2021, Paf Atelier designs the stage for the double show of the designer Louis Gabriel Nouchi and the brand JOEONE. This show takes place on June 24th during the FWP. Located on the forecourt of the Palais de Tokyo, this ephemeral stage takes place on the big basin. The central run-way leads to a rectangular poly-mirror platform. This sobriety and minimalism refers to the elegance of the clothes. The reflection of the chosen material multiplies the mannequins and offers a more complex scenography that always places the clothes at the center of the composition. Finally, perpetually in movement thanks to the mirrors, the stage is transformed to the rhythm of the collections that parade.

Scenography & production (2023)

Located in the Tour & Taxis industrial building, the scenography of Collectible 2023 is a game between repetition and gravity that leads the studio to create an impactful element that does not interfere with the exhibitors’ works. The main installation, positioned at the entrance to the fair, is both a spatial landmark and a roof under which to meet. It is the starting and ending point of the fair. Composed of 24 inflatable structures and more than 350 linear metres of rope, the suspended installation highlights the quality of each of its components: the inflatable structure for its volume/weight ratio (large but light), the rope for its technical and aesthetic characteristics to support the inflatable structures. This suspended ceiling is the crystallisation of the work of Paf Atelier, for which the choice of materials, construction techniques and the application of local know-how are part of a responsible, ethical and sustainable approach.

Paf atelier collaborated with The Community on the occasion of the launch of Carven’s new SS23 collection. This work around the pattern and the iconic shape of the historic sales label then transcribed on the brand’s Calisson bag, is the starting point of this project. The main installation on a green background, minimalist, has like a museum, a mixture between historical objects by Carven and 3D printed objects resulting from research around the brand’s products, enlarged, simplified. This archive becomes a way of retracing the history of the brand. This is recorded and broadcast on the facade of the store via a screen, like surveillance videos. The scenography is entirely based on the reuse of mirrors produced for a previous project and the arrangement of lights and objects belonging to La Machine. This composition of mirror elements and technical elements generates a scenic installation made dynamic by the play of reflections of the lights being projected there. The mirror is selected for its properties and its materiality close to the world of tuning and its reflections. The games of reflections with the mirrors enliven the whole space. The use of technical elements assumed and revealed in the stage installation gives references to the world of technology and motorization. Like mirrors.

After a first fashion show at the Palais de Tokyo, the studio designs in January 2022 the scenography for the double fashion show of designer Louis Gabriel Nouchi and the brand JOEONE. This show takes place on January 22 as part of the PFW. Located in the heart of the Théâtre de Chaillot, the mirror modules welcome the strolling silhouettes. The runway arranged in four polymoir islands reflects and pays tribute to the collection. Like an evening outing, the gradual evolution of the elements, from top to bottom, brings the characters to a gradual return to reality.

As part of the LGN Louis Gabriel Nouchi boutique development project, the workshop imagined an archipelago of objects: reception desk, leather goods tree and display case elements. The space is re-qualified through these objects with strong characters and marked materials: degraded, burnt wood, technical locksmithing. Vie des Moulins
Scenography and production (2022)

The workshop has designed a family of installations arranged between the two Continua galleries, that of the Moulins and that of Sainte-Marie. Capable of harboring a smell and a story linked to the site and its history, these installations weave and mark out a walk taken by visitors between these two places. Inspired by ordinary beacons present on the site of the galleries and diverted, these signage elements become real olfactory and historical beacons. Four of these beacons are composed of an olfactory object and a historical story, the other six are only signage on the promenade. For these beacons to become a real moment of break on the walk, they are accompanied by a use. These uses are manifested by wooden surfaces at different heights. Each of these uses is adapted to its site and underlines its specificity: a stage for a clearing, a bench for a path, a table for an open space, a roof for a lit area. Designed on a single system, these four surfaces generate a catalog of harmonious, contextual and coherent forms.

On the occasion of Paris Fashion Week, the workshop is once again collaborating with Yard in an emblematic Parisian location. The workshop designed and produced a new scenography for the reopening, exhibition and launch of the Maisons Château Rouge x Jordan collection (second collaboration of the name). Through the use of an element from the construction, known to all, we designed three floors with different programs (ground floor for the cafeteria and the living space, the R+1 for the exhibition, the R+2 for the workshops). The scenography is made up of 9,000 bricks (of two types – perforated and solid), 9 blue surfaces (circles, squares), 200 meters of rope and 4 nets made by Ateliers Delacroix. This exhibition is considered as a first phase of a pre-configuration of the place, as a moment of testing and sharing around the next uses of this place. All the objects used are reused for the construction after dismantling. The former TATI becomes an ephemeral cultural center that promotes interculturality and more broadly those of the diasporas through a multidisciplinary and contemporary program. On the occasion of the Collectible fair in Brussels, the workshop presents a tailor-made space for the presentation of several objects / prototypes resulting from a design work. The space is wrapped in orange blinds to create a backlit screen, like a background or a colored case to receive the collection of objects. Imagined as a coherent whole, the objects reflect the environment as well as the verticals of the curtain. This suspended process is very often used by the workshop in these achievements. The collection of five elements/objects/prototypes embodies the desire to present objects that can change destinations, be deprogrammed and reprogrammed for a new function. The four standing elements and a suspended luminaire, designed exclusively for the living room, are made up of LED neon lights, bolts and stainless steel plates. Dismountable, all parts of the objects are removable but are constrained by the question of its overall balance: both physical and aesthetic.

This scenography in the Le Printemps’s new identity colors plays between metal structures and white inflatables. Imagined, at the very beginning as sympathetic ghostly elements, these signal objects draw from the imagination of sea lighthouses or water towers. The scenography proposes different elements, created for several uses: The large structures signify the festival entrance located on Rue Caumartin and Rue de Provence. Stands and simple signage elements present the activities, a stage welcomes ive artists. From the dazzling sun to the total or partial eclipse, the suspended structure designed by the studio for Itmahrag responds to the dancers and performers who surround it. In November 2021, the Yard agency asked Paf atelier to design the scenography for the “Engage your Mbappé Mode” event on the occasion of the release of the footballer’s collection. The idea is to provide an interactive experience for children. Located in the offices of the Nike House of Innovation, the facility is at the crossroads of a playground and a workplace. The intervention takes the form of a single module in a metallic structure into which an inflatable is inserted. This mix between industrial technique and formal playfulness makes it possible to respond to the main problem: the safety of children. By the modularity of the structures, the different games are drawn by declining the principle and thus create walls, islands and furniture. Light, on the other hand, makes it possible to underline the technical aspect of the games, and develops a dynamic and powerful language through an infinite number of variations.

The installation is inspired by the Étincelles building realized by Patrick Bouchain. It takes place in the reception and the corridor of the building, using the architectural principles in place: the height under the glass roof, the natural light and the structure. The light installation is generated by an accumulation of neon lights that illustrate a scintillating landscape. This integration creates optical effects that attract the interest of the public and students, and becomes an identity tool and a signal throughout the building. Light boxes indicate the mediation rooms. These two languages cohabit and articulate to create a visual link, but also a coherent lighting environment. Offrir des Fleurs
Exhibition (2021)

With the support of Agora du Design’s Curator Awarded, Christopher Dessus and the studio designed and produced the exhibition Offrir des Fleurs at the Pavillon de l’Arsenal (opening June 2021). The idea of the project is to understand the new challenges of a design exhibition. Foreshadowed by a call for testimonials and completed by the creation of an online cultural medium, the exhibition Offrir des Fleurs compiles and composes with sensitive content. Both informative on the floricultural context and generative of visitor reactions, the exhibition collects a series of intangible information related to this subject. Organized as independent islands, each “table” makes it possible to visualize the different subjects of the research. These take the form of manufactured objects, inspired by the supplies florist uses on a daily basis. The solids and valleys make it possible to compose and organize the content these intelligible subject.

Belle au bois dormant
Stage scenography (2020)

Belle au bois dormant
Stage scenography (2020)

The Sohrâb Chitan Company reinterprets the tale of Sleeping Beauty. Poetic, evil, this tale has crossed the ages and found multiple representations. This ballet is developed as a series of three tableau representing the three highlights of Aurore’s life. She goes through states of thought, reveries, extremes. The scenography is a screen work of curtains cut into arches, creating different compositions. Due to the pandemic, this production could not be fulfilled.

Exhibition (2020)

The studio questions and diverts the primary function of this desecrate place to create an exhibition space and a place of exchange around an universal subject: the nativity. The project we are proposing focuses on a flesh and blood colorimetric and plastic scenography creating a unique experience that does not damage the existing building. The principle is simple, it involves the creation of several volumes. Each base illustrates each sub-part of the theme and is completed by signage work in neon light.

Minimal & maximal
Exhibition (2020)

As part of the launch of the sixth issue of Pli - Minimal & maxima magazine, the studio elaborated a scenography for the gallery space at Floréal Belleville in Paris. Inside and outside, the scenographic space of this micro-gallery is treated as a whole. This installation is commensurate with the theme, and its duality. The showcase is used as a graphic composition surface and gives the street a full expression of the theme: maximum. Inside, the use of the magazines themselves as presentation support expresses the idea of a minimal device, without any added objects or produced for the occasion.

Korean Corner Pop Up Shop
Showroom with Ubalt Architectes (2017)

The scenography of this Korean pop-up shop seeks to question the manufacturing process of the object. The project can be read through three materials of industrial origin expressing three moments of creation. The floor is covered with gravel, the displays are made of BA13 and the envelope is made of bubble wrap. The very shape of the objects created evokes advancement, an evolving space for an ephemeral exhibition.

Exhibition (2019)

Leading a multidisciplinary team composed of architects, designers and graphic designers, the studio co-produced the first edition of the Pli Public Workshop at the Pavillon de l’Arsenal, Paris. Created by Pli Éditions in 2019, the latter is a creative support program dedicated to the new generation of architects and designers.
Over a period of several months, the studio oversaw the production of eleven installations by the program’s laureates, while producing the exhibition and bringing to life the scenography designed by Adrien Rovero Studio. By considering museography as a tool for mediation, the studio sought to question the codes of presentation set up in an exhibition. This exhibition was made possible thanks to an efficient and original synthesis of various creative disciplines, which is emblematic of the work process established by the studio in each of its projects.

Creative assistance program (2019)

The studio co-produced the first exhibition of the Pli Public Workshop, held from November 2019 to January 2020 at the Pavillon de l’Arsenal in Paris. Dedicated to research and the production of a project, this creative assistance program offers an accompaniment from professionals from the fields of architecture, art and design.
Over a period of several months, the studio oversaw the design and production of the laureates’ works, brought together in a collective exhibition reflecting on creating and experimenting around the theme of Obsession. Prototypes or finished objects, videos or models, immersive installations or micro-architectures, these new productions crystallized ways of thinking and doing, creative processes and as many approaches that question architecture and design in a tangible way. This project shows the importance that the studio attaches to supporting and encouraging young contemporary creation.

L’heure rouge
Stage scenography (2019)

Yanis is a French singer, actively involved in the Parisian Queer scene. After a first album, he came back with new artistic and performative proposals, which the studio interpreted in a scenography. Conceived for a tailor-made show at the Mains d’Œuvres space (Saint-Ouen), the set design is composed of several printed screens, various objects and platforms, sound and light devices. This show allowed us to collaborate with light engineers, sound technicians, dancers and performers. Produced to a sold-out audience, this collaborative project was extended when Yanis was invited to play the premiere of Hyphen Hyphen at the Zenith-la Villette in Paris.

Aimko Paris (creative agency) has commissioned the studio and Ubalt Architectes to design the showroom for the new SS19 Adidas collection in an ephemeral 2500 m² venue. The devices we designed were made using elements from the world of building and construction. Assembled and diverted from their primary use, they become seats, displays, room dividers and various supports. The venue was opened by invitation to professional buyers and influencers from the sneaker and sportswear scene for two weeks during the 2018 Paris Fashion Week.

Folies
Installation (2019)

The We Love Green music festival was the occasion to experiment with large-scaled creation through an ephemeral installation. We designed this scenography as an opportunity to interact with the public, and invite visitors to start a new dialogue with the objects. Entirely transportable and adaptable to the festival grounds, these colored objects allow visitors to walk through them, as their material properties (inflatable, translucent etc.) do not make them obstacles. The idea is to create an event within the festival itself by installing a village of shapes. Like in situ folies, they offer a pause in the wandering of the festival-goers. This project has remained at the state of a sketch.

For the 4th Bienniale of the Réseau des Maisons de l’architecture (the french network of architecture houses), the studio was invited to lead both the general curating of the bienniale, and the curating of the Pari exhibition taking place at the DOC! space in Paris. Playing with the codes and various interpretations of the engagements of designers and architects, the project was articulated around two spaces : the former swimming pool and the former refectory. In a scenography designed by Peaks Architects, the studio exhibited a co-presence of already-made artworks and objects & installations created specifically for the event.

Furniture (2018)

As the Frac Paca needed nine travelling exhibition modules, we designed a collection of furniture which could adapt itself to the artworks in display. This collection of furniture aims to offer mobility and adaptability to an exhibition space. Using metal tubes and modular shelves, we imagined a shelving system able to adapt its structure to its content. This solution makes it possible to recreate rooms, walls and ceilings to accommodate and allow different displays and hanging systems. This project remained in the sketch stage.

Following the release of the fourth issue of its magazine, the publishing house Pli Éditions organized this exhibition in the gallery of the famous French design magazine Étapes:. Choosing to put aside the creative process aside for once, the exhibition turns to the primary objects : raw materials. The genesis of the creations of ten artists, architects, designer and graphic designers were showcased. The exhibited pieces included works from Atelier Irradié, the Kandinsky Library, Fanette Mellier, Léo Grunstein and Camille Berger (Studio Philippe Apeloig), Les Graphiquants, matali crasset, Philippe Rahm, Pierre Antoine, Samy Rio and Spassky Fischer.

La Publication comme Matière
Exhibition with Collectif Blanc (2018)

Co-signed with Pli Éditions and Collectif Blanc, this exhibition took place in an unusual place : a contemporary dance studio in Montreal. The exhibition reunited artists from Paris and Montreal. The immersive scenography allowed visitors to have free access to the exhibited pieces, thus questioning and hijacking traditional ways of showcasing graphic and editorial pieces. The four-day event was completed by performances (artists, dancers, etc.) and the presence of a bookstore (Canadian Centre for Architecture).

This exhibition focuses on making tangible the invisible process of creating a publication. Sous Pli looks behind the scenes of physical and conceptual production to showcase a space of trials, failures and successes. Articulated in letters (time) and numbers (exchanges), 120 layouts and discussions were exhibited.
